About the Project
Project Reimagine Energy aims to enable young people to discover how they can use Engineering to design and create the future they want, in a way that is engaging and links fun playtime activities with energy generating methods.
This hands on, interactive session will introduce different forms of energy generation through interactive demonstrators in the initial talk, followed by a workshop where students can assemble and test their own energy generating minute playground kits. These include energy generating swings, carousels, and seesaws (15 kits designed to be assembled in pairs). This session will take around 1 hour long but can be tailored to range between 40 minutes and 2 hours.
This workshop is suitable for years 5-13, with different sessions and instructions booklets provided according to the age group and is open to Schools and Youth Groups. These sessions will become available from around July 2023 (once the final kits and worksheets have been completed). As this project is funded by the Engineering Education Grant Scheme (EEGS), through the IET and IMechE, these sessions can be offered for free.
We are in Swansea and can travel up to 50 miles away, or schools/groups can come and visit us at Swansea University to partake in this session. Alternatively, if you are outside of this are, but still interested in this session, we can provide online sessions as well which focus more on the demonstrators.
For Schools with access to a 3D printer, you can also print off and build your own miniature Energy Generating playground kits alongside the online session, or to use them as the focus of a class exercise. If you would like to use these in your classes, we do kindly ask that you acknowledge project Reimagine Energy & the EEGS and contact us first, as we can provide technical support and guidance.
